What this painting reveals…
“Embraced” is the second in this fundraising series. It didn’t start as a series, but through the incredible experience of creating the first painting “In All Her Glory”, it became inevitable.
What amazed me, is that I started this painting with a darker image in my head. Incredibly, only light came out. Softness enveloped her. The painting was showing me that the darkness had receded, that a lot of the overwhelming negative thoughts of breast cancer (the real and the unknown future) had been replaced by lightness. Through the process of planning and creating “In All Her Glory” (you can read what that’s about here), a shift occurred without me realising it.
I’m not saying it’s gone forever, intense medical scrutiny on a regular basis will see to that. Multiple scans make my belly tighten and my heart rate increase; adrenaline floods my system waiting for results.
It’s all the precious days in-between that take precedence. It’s the conversations that come from the heart, crying with laughter, spontaneous hugs touching me inside and out, smelling the rain, watching new buds appear on trees…this is where the light lives inside me.

Why I’m donating to the National Breast Cancer Foundation…
NBCF is working towards one goal:
Zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030.
I was motivated to organise an art exhibition to raise funds for the NBCF because my sister died six weeks before her 41st birthday and my mum’s kicking breast cancer where it hurts, for which I’m eternally grateful.
What started as one painting, turned into three. What started as a group exhibition with 80 other fundraising artists, turned virtual and solo due to COVID-19. What started as an idea, became a driving need to help stop the deaths and lives being torn apart.
The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) is Australia’s leading national body funding game-changing breast cancer research with money raised entirely by the public, people like you and me.
I believe research is the best way to prevent deaths, and improve how breast cancer is diagnosed, managed and treated. NBCF is working towards one goal: zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030.
Together we can help them get there.
